Inextinguishable Oliveira

On Sunday August 7th, percussionist Roberto Oliveira will perform two of my most recent multimedia works with live vibraphone. The event will take place on 8/7 10PM in the “O son da praza” events in Tomiño, Galicia.

The same repertoire will also be performed by Oliveira on 8/19 in Turonia.

Crippled Tango in Buenos Aires

The duo formed by Cecilia Frias (piano) and Sebastián Tozzola (bass clarinet) will perform the Argentine premiere of my piece “Crippled tango” on August 6th.

El clarinete bajo y el piano. La música creada específicamente para estos dos instrumentos juntos es el motor que lleva adelante a este duo que formamos felizmente con Cecilia Frias.
Allí se nos ve ensayando para el concierto que tendrá lugar en la Biblioteca para Ciegos (Lezica 3909) el dia sábado 6 de agosto a las 18hs, en donde estaremos tocando Crippled Tango, de Jorge Variego, Edifice de David Bennett Thomas y la Sonata de Arthur Gottschalk.

Roberto Oliveira at the 12th Edition of the Festival de Jazz de Vigo

Artist extraordinaire Roberto Oliveira will be performing two of my compositions at the 12the edition of the Festival de Jazz de Vigo on July 4th. He is part of a great program with outstanding musicians, including Hermeto Pascoal.

“6 inches” for Big Band

A new work based on Charles Bukowski’s short story Six Inches. Here an excerpt: “Sarah got me down to being 6 inches tall. She carried me to the store in her purse. I could look out at the people through the little air holes she had poked in her purse. I will say one thing for the woman. She still allowed me to have my beer. I drank it by the thimble. A quart would last me a month. In the old days it was gone in 45 minutes. I was resigned. I knew that if she wished to do so she could make me vanish entirely. Better 6 inches than nothing.”

The work is a derivative composition from pieces by other composers. It is a homage that celebrates many preexisting compositions without fixing to any of them. An idea formed by many other ideas with only one unique element, this very performance.

“Leonardo” premiered at Concordia College

The Big Band at Concordia College conducted by artist extraordinaire Russell Peterson, premiered my recent work Leonardo on April 11. Super exciting news!

Program notes about the work:

The piece is about Leonardo’s Pizzeria located on the corner of 13th St. and University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. It is also about the composer Leonardo Balada. It is not about Leonardo Da Vinci.
